K-pop Star 2′s Choi Ye Geun advances to the live performance round, eliminating Nicole

Choi Ye Geun has earned a spot in the first live performance round of K-Pop Star 2.

Episode 12 of K-pop Star 2, which aired on January 27 featured fierce performance battles among contestants to qualify to be in Top 10.

Contestants that each represented SM, YG, and JYP were put in groups of three to show the best performance in this rival battle round. Whoever gave the best performance from each group was immediately qualified to advance to the live performance round. The second best performance put the performer on the waiting list, while the worst performance from the group eliminated the performer. 

Group 3 with JYP’s Choi Ye Geun, SM’s Two-Thousand Won, and YG’s Nicole Curry performed on the episode that aired today. Choi Ye Geun’s unique cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” was heartily applauded by the three judges, making her the first place winner of the group.

BoA said, “This was the best cover of the song I have ever heard. It was an amazing performance.” Park Jin Young also complimented the young contestant by saying, “Ye Geun is not only a good singer but a good musician. Her performance moved me.”

Two-Thousand Won won second place and was given one more chance to redeem themselves to move up to the next round. The duo performed “Let’s Get It Started” by Black Eyed Peas, showing off their signature rap and lyrics. Unfortunately, the judges thought their performance lacked originality this time.

Nicole Curry’s sexy cover of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” received some harsh criticism. Yang Hyun Suk said, “Nicole’s facial expression and dance performance have always been good, but her vocal ability is just not up to par.”
