Actress Bae Doo Na has talked about her special friendship with the rising Hollywood star Jim Sturgess.After becoming the center of attention when she was made up to look Caucasian, Bae once again attracted eyes with her role as a sweet, romantic partner of Sturgess in the movie Cloud Atlas.
In an interview with a mass media agency, Bae said, “Jim Sturgess is a kind, considerate friend who is also very helpful. After some of our sessions shooting the film, we often hung out and had some soju together,” revealing their particular friendship.
Sturgess’ previous works include the films The Other Boleyn Girl and 21, and he is now well recognized as a rising star of the next generation who is to follow handsome British actors such as Christian Bale, Orlando Bloom, and Robert Pattinson. Many female fans love him even more for his intelligence as he studied for a master’s at a prestigious university in the UK.
On the other hand, Bae plays many different roles in the film including Son Mi and Tilda throughout the time span of 500 years from the 19th century to near future. It is said that her acting left a strong impression on the Hollywood actors.
The foreign press also highly praised her acting.
About the Korean actress, the Weekly stated, “The actress that left the strongest impression.” The New Yorker described her as “A marvelous actress,” whereas Wide Screen and the New York Times said, “Bae gave light to the role that changes from pure species to a revolutionary symbol.” and “The character Son Mi-451, by Bae Doona, is an allegorical key to the latter half of Cloud Atlas.”
Bae’s first Hollywood movie, Cloud Atlas, will open in theaters on January 10, 2013.
