On January 27, G-Dragon attended a press interview that was held before Big Bang’s concert, Big Bang Alive Galaxy Tour: The Final, was held at the Gymnastics Stadium in the Olympic Park and expressed his opinion about the Korean music market.
G-Dragon said, “While I was travelling many countries, I saw many of our fans with diverse ethnic backgrounds and languages singing our songs in Korean. I felt very happy and touched. I gained confidence in K-pop and Big Bang’s music.”
Regarding the Korean music, he said, “I thought that the range of music genres in Korea is fairly limited compared to that in other countries. I intentionally try not to think about popular appeal when I write songs. I listen to a variety of songs of different genres more than Korean pop songs that rapidly change.”
He also said, “I hope we can listen to more song that create memories. In some other countries, people often get to recognize good songs after two, three, or even six months after their release,” expressing his sadness about the Korean music market that revolves around certain genres and new songs only.
People who heard G-Dragon’s opinion responded: “I agree with G-Dragon.” “I think the Korean music market only revolves around idol music.” “The problem is that it will be hard for the Korean music market to change.”
