Singer Ailee says she has prayed for the peaceful repose of Im Yoon Taek, who passed away on February 11 after a long struggle against stomach cancer. At the Second Gaon Chart K-pop Awards, which took place on February 13 at 7:00 p.m at Seoul Sonpa Olympic Hall, Ailee was nominated as the rookie female artist of the year. As she accepted her award, she deeply moved the audience by saying, “I’ve learned that music is not just singing but sharing one’s feelings with others. Yoon Taek, rest in peace in heaven.”
These K-pop awards are based on objective data that has been gathered from the Gaon Chart. The event gives awards to 16 teams who sold the most albums from January to December of the previous year.
Joo Young Hun and Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga In hosted the event and such other artists as Big Bang, Super Junior, TVXQ, Taetiseo, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, T-ara attended.
