Psy receives a medal for introducing K-pop to the world

Psy recently received the Jade Cultural Medal, the biggest award given to people working in the popular culture industry.
On November 6, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported that they have selected the winner of the 2012 Korea Popular Culture Awards.
Psy, who is currently popular all over the world for his song “Gangnam Style,” received the medal for introducing K-pop to the world.
Director Kim Ki Duk, who received the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for his film Pieta, received the Silver Cultural Medal. Singer Keum Sa Hyang, writer Kim Soo Hyun, and actor Yoon Il Bong also received the Silver Cultural Medals.
Actress Na Moon Hee, art director Song Seung Hwan, and singer Song Chang Sik received the Coronal Cultural Medals, and actor Lee Jung Jin and actress Jo Min Soo, the lead actor and actress in the film Pieta, were selected as people who have rendered distinguished services.
The Korea Popular Culture Awards is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in order to enhance the social position of the popular culture, which is the core driving fore of Hallyu, and to encourage people working in the popular culture industry. The awards will be held on November 19 at the Olympic Hall at the Olympic Park.
